This 7-CEU Summit will cover:

Audition & Cognition

Dr. Douglas L. Beck, Au.D.

For more than 75 years, hearing healthcare providers have recognized the importance and intricate relationships among psychology, language, cognition, dementia and auditory processing. This presentation will review and interpret the published evidence, the status quo, as well as why and how to screen patients to assess the possibility that dementia, cognitive decline, or mild cognitive impairment may be impacting their ability to comprehend, understand or make sense of speech (and other sounds).

Neuroscience

Dr. Keith Darrow, Ph.D.

Learn exactly what happens to the auditory system and how it impacts the brain and cognition as we age. Case studies of early-stage hearing loss (aka, hidden hearing loss) will be analyzed to highlight the importance of treatment. Best practices for cognitive screenings and diagnosing hearing loss and tinnitus in private practice will be discussed, including ‘realistic expectations’ for treatment outcomes.

Cognitive Screenings

Dr. Jill Davis, Au.D.

Given the correlation hearing loss and increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia, it is essential that hearing healthcare practices integrate cognitive screening tools, including the F.D.A. cleared Cognivue™. This course will review best practices for integrating cognitive screenings in private practice and establishing screening protocols, including follow-up screenings.

Cognitive Impairment

Dr. Jed Grisel, MD

It appears your patient may be at increased risk of cognitive decline… now what? Best practices for referring patients suspected of having cognitive issues to their E.N.T, P.C.P., neurologist or geriatric specialist will be discussed. In addition, incorporating cognitive screenings in to a bustling ENT practice will be reviewed.
